Hugh Margerum
Hugh Margerum has been painting with oils in an intuitive abstract manner most of his adult life. He is one of those whose practices engage material intelligence and perceptual inquiry. His work is particularly concerned with exploring contradictions, primarily the flat surface of the canvas vs. illusionary depth which becomes an arena for an array of shapes, lines, colors and things vs. non-things to engage in meaningful, playful, and absurd interactions.
